The school photographer will be in school, taking pupil photographs.

The children and staff at Merryfields are delighted to announce that we will be hosting
another McMillan Coffee Morning this year.

This year the event will be held in the school hall between 10 am and 11am. Pupils are welcome to
join parents/ carers in the hall for the event. Please inform class staff via SeeSaw before Friday 27th
September if you would like this to be arranged. Classes will also have the opportunity host their own
event in class during the day.

We will be celebrating National Poetry day, by reading, listening to and creating our own poems. We will be showcasing new voices and celebrating diversity through poetry.

All pupils will learn about Algebra today, through the shared story of ‘one is a snail, ten is a crab.’ Pupils will learn about ways of recording number, patterns and various ways of illustrating commutativity.

Nursery rhymes play an important role in early childhood development and education. As well as being fun they are excellent teaching tools: boost vocabulary and language development. This week, classes will engage with classic nursery rhymes through circle times, sensory sessions, literacy and numeracy lessons. Some pupils will also create and perform their own nursery rhymes. During the day, some of our KS2 pupils will also go around school, performing nursery rhymes for their peers in other classrooms.

Some of our pupils will be attending a local Remembrance Service and laying a wreath. All of our classes will be completing work on the topic/theme of remembrance throughout this week.

To celebrate the start of Anti-Bullying week and to celebrate our differences, we will be wearing odd socks to school.

We will be celebrating Children in Need again this year. As with previous years, we will be fundraising for this great charity.

Our parent teacher meetings will be taking place. Please book your time slot with your child’s teacher.

Doves classroom will be visiting the local synagogue, with a tour from the Rabbi; this will link with their current Judaism and Hanukah topics in Religious Studies.

The school will be closed on this date for the bank holiday.

To commerate the 80th anniversary of VE Day, when the war in Europe ended. All classes with be engaging in cross curricular activities that enable the children to explore and learn about the origins of the event, its importance and impact and upon our lives today.

This will be a celebration of stewardship, linking with our PHSE and RE curriculums. Promoting the impacts of littering and raise awareness of recycling. Each class is taking part in a recycling focused activity and we have a visit planned from Newcastle Council Waste and Recycling team.

All classes will be given the opportunity to access a performace by the Entrust Music Group, as their musicians bring live music into the school environment to perform and showcase their instruments and performance skills. Encountering rock ,pop and classical genres and inspiring the pupils and nurturing an interest in musical learning by seeing musicians performing live.

The staff and children will again be supporting the Contact charity ,by taking part in DinoDay.

Raising funds and awareness of the charities’ vital support services to families of children with disabilities and additional needs.

Classes will be timetabled to visit the annual aspirations fair in the school hall. Allowing pupils to meet representatives from the wider community, and learn about thier job or role.
