It is my pleasure to welcome you to Merryfields School. We are a generic special school located in the heart of Wolstanton, providing specialist education for pupils with an Education Health and Care Plan from Nursery age to Year 6.
Within Merryfields, we are dedicated to preparing each child for their educational journey and beyond. We focus on individualised learning, cultivating academic excellence while imparting essential life skills for all pupils.
Our mission statement of ‘Nurturing a Love of Learning For Life’ is the cornerstone of everything we do. Our purpose is to provide pupils with a strong educational foundation, whilst also equipping them with skills and values to help them reach their potential. We strive to develop confident and independent pupils, who are enthusiastic about their learning and are empowered to progress in all areas.
Stepping inside Merryfields, you will sense the value placed on individuality as we seek to foster a sense of belonging for every child. We further promote an ethos of school community, encouraging a sense of belonging, promoting good relationships and inspiring pupils to value each other. We celebrate successes and achievements daily.
Our bespoke curriculum is based on the National Curriculum, ensuring all of our pupils are challenged academically and provided with a broad and balanced range of learning opportunities. We also ensure pupils are provided with a range of extracurricular opportunities, for example educational visits, participation in national charity events and more.
In 2019, we achieved the National Autistic Societies ‘Advanced’ award for our excellent practice and provision for pupils with a diagnosis of Autism and their families. We are thrilled to have maintained this award in 2024. This recognition for our work and our relationship with the National Autistic Society has been invaluable in helping us enhance our working practices and ensure we are maintaining our high standards for all pupils with special educational needs. Additionally, in 2025, we achieved the NAS Beacon Status, in recognition of our exceptional work and significant impact on the understanding and support of autistic individuals within our community.
As a school, we strongly value our relationships with parents and families. By collaborating closely with families, we acknowledge the positive impact this can have on our pupils and on their progress. We have a network of support for families in Merryfields School and encourage strong communication between home and school.
Our Outreach provision has also evolved over the past few years. We are extremely proud to have supported multiple schools across Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent, with their special educational needs provision.
